Explore the natural landscape surrounding the trading post and Ojibwe encampment at the historic site during a week of fun-filled activities. Dress as a voyageur, play 19th-century games, create traditional Ojibwe crafts and become part of the story that is Minnesota’s fur trade history. The journey begins at the North West Company Fur Post.

Historic Craft Series:Hear the ring of the blacksmith’s anvil, see the silversmith etching the intricate details on a brooch, smell the fresh pine odor of the carpenters wood shavings. Come and experience these and other sights and sounds of early 19th century trades. Learn about the various enterprises that supplied the fur trade as you watch demonstrations and meet practicing crafters during this weekend-long event. Many handmade items will be available for purchase from the vendors for you to take home.
Costumed reenactors set up camp for the weekend and recreate a fall gathering of American Indians and fur traders preparing for the winter fur harvest. Watch as they vie for the title of best all-around voyageur, testing their strength and wits.
Enjoy the crisp air and bright colors of the fall season, listen to traditional music and participate in hands-on activities for families. A festive dance at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday will be a highlight of the weekend.
Mystery at the Fur Post
There is something terrible lurking in the woods, hiding in the shadows where no one can see, waiting for the moon to rise so mischief may begin.
Strange occurrences plague the North West Company Fur Post. Fires, injuries, missing food, all have disquieted the company men. The only clue the culprit leaves behind are his footprints in the mud. “Loup-Garou, loup-garou! A werewolf!” The voyageurs cry and forget their duties as the sun goes down. With great suspicion they look to one another and try to uncover the cursed eyes. They believe Loup-Garou is among them but Mr. Sayer merely scoffs for the Devil’s agents must be of flesh and blood. Journey into the woods to Mr. Sayer’s post to join in the hunt or dispel superstition, but come before they take matters into their own hands.
