East Central Minnesota Pride, the nonprofit that has been holding regional LGBTQ pride events for 15 years, announced this week that they have officially canceled the event originally slated for June 6, 2020.
This decision comes after a wave of large event cancellations and postponements due to the developing COVID-19 pandemic. As large events across the national and global stage have set a precedent of taking all precautions in order to keep people safe, the ECM Pride organizers have followed suit.
“The safety and well-being of our community is the number one consideration in this difficult decision,” explained Pride organizer Julie Redpath of Chisago City.
Redpath added, “Pride is every day.” In that light, area businesses or homes that would still like to show their support can pick up an “All Are Welcome Here” sticker or rainbow flag to display on their storefronts or homes. As a member of the Chamber, the Pride Committee has made these items available from the Pine City Chamber Office.
